Is it mean to think that animals shouldnt be treated as kids?

Ok I like animals but dont like them inside and I dont treat them like my kids. My boyfriend has a dog he has had for 11 years he treats better than me. I have to give up my spot in the bed if the dog is scared or uncomfortable. I get mad and tell him that I am not being treated right b/c the dog comes before me. He says I am an animal hater and need to stop being so mean to his dog. He constanly tells the dog how handsome he is and how much he loves him. Is it mean that I find that annoying and that I think he is being too lovable to the dog?
